Killing a UTI: Phase II

Posted in Infection Killing Protocol

big-guns

Yes, that’s right. We’re bringing out the big guns, now.

By this time, you should have been following the recommendations outlined in the Phase I post for at least 3 days, and you may be getting headaches, nausea, and hopefully, loose stools from Candida die-off. Your UTI pain should be alleviated by 30-40%, as well.

With your strong OLE you bought online in hand, you can start taking it with every meal. With Vitacost OLE (500 mg capsule with 90 mg oleuropein in it) you can take..

  • 2 with breakfast
  • 1 with lunch, and
  • 1 with dinner

..on the first day, and see how you feel at the end of the day. You may experience an increase in die-off symptoms. For nausea, you can drink a glass of baking soda water to settle your stomach in 10 minutes, but for the headache you’ll just have to stay well-hydrated and soldier through. If you feel pretty good, take 1 more capsule before bed, and in the morning take..

  • 2 with breakfast
  • 2 with lunch, and if you feel okay at dinner time, take
  • 2 with dinner

..but if you’re feeling worse at dinner time, just take 1 capsule with that meal so you feel well enough to sleep. Die-off is cumulative, so when you increase your doses do it in the mornings. Keep emptying your bladder once an hour throughout the day like you’ve (hopefully) been doing since the beginning, and keep steadily increasing your OLE doses until your bowels are running loose and free. At that point, you can begin to take large doses of activated charcoal, which both adsorbs (yes, I spelled that right) die-off toxins, AND removes living Candida rapidly and effectively.

(Just so you know, it’s perfectly normal to feel like total crap for a day or two when you’re killing Candida. It’s a tough process, but it’s the best thing you can do for your overall health. Hang in there and push through, and you’re going to feel really, really good in short order.)
If your activated charcoal capsules are around 300 mg, take 10 each time. 500 mg, take 6.

Like so:

  • Breakfast: 2-4 OLE capsules, 1 clove minced garlic, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 hours later: 6-10 charcoal capsules
  • Lunch: 2-4 OLE capsules
  • 2 hours later: 6-10 charcoal capsules
  • Dinner: 2-4 OLE capsules, 1 clove minced garlic, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 hours later: 6-10 charcoal capsules
  • Bedtime: (2 hours after charcoal dose) 2-4 OLE capsules, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

It is imperative that activated charcoal be taken in the middle of a 4 hour fasting window between meals, otherwise the charcoal will be wasted trying to adsorb your food and supplements.

Also, as I mentioned, hold off on taking charcoal for die-off until your bowels are starting to run like an open tap. When you’re that cleared out, not only is charcoal more effective, so are OLE and your other pathogen-killers. By this time your UTI symptoms should be diminishing rapidly, and you can increase your OLE doses to full strength, 4 capsules 4 times a day, adding a couple of capsules a day till you reach that level.
When you do, take the full protocol as outlined above for 3 full days, then test yourself first thing in the morning and see where you are. Your gut should be cleared out of Candida at that point, and any other infections should be cleared or clearing, sinus infections, chronic ear fluid or sinus congestion, joint inflammation decreases, and you’re losing water weight because your body was retaining fluid to dilute Candida toxins, and you don’t have those, anymore.

As all of these things clear up, more and more OLE, garlic, and cayenne are making it into your bladder to kill that infection. Test every morning until the strips are perfectly clear for 3 days straight, then begin to taper everything down over the course of a week.

Presto, every infection you had is dead, along with the UTI, and your gut is cleared of the pathogens that were causing new infections. You’ve pressed the Reset button on your gut and immune system, and now you can take probiotics and live like a normal person whose life doesn’t revolve around their bladder.

Enjoy.

(If you have complications that lead to a lingering infection, check out the Phase III post I’m about to write, on troubleshooting complications.)

    Hi Bekah,

Thank you so much for sharing this information. I have been on multiple antibiotics and I tried many supplements to resolve an UTI I am having for past 4 months. I would really would like to leave it behind as I am really not myself nowadays. Therefore, I have started your protocol last 3 days. Increasing my dose towards 4 OLE capsules today.
There is one question I would like to ask your advice on. I am feeling this strange back centre muscle spasm. In addition, my spine centre bone hurts a bit more. At times I feel the muscle spawn on the lower back left and right. It comes on and off for the past month and half. I am wondering if you have seen these symptoms before and if yes, is it part of candida in my body as well?
Also I am guessing, these symptoms will fade away as I keep on going?

    Thank you so much!!
    Sincerely,
    Dev

Dude this sounds like your uti has progressed to your kidneys. You need to see a doctor before you go into shock. I hope you’re ok!

    Hi Rebekah,

I came across your website a few days ago and just want to thank you for all of the effort you’ve put into it. It’s amazing that you have made this information readily available to help so many women!

My husband and I got married 10 months ago. I had never had a UTI before that, but got one shortly after we were married (for obvious reasons, I think). After taking antibiotics, I continually have been getting UTIs (or at least feeling symptoms) on and off since the first one. I have been tested at the doctor with various results – sometimes negative and sometimes positive. The first one was Ecoli, but the others came back negative. However, I know the symptoms and am positive I’ve been having maybe one continuous UTI or several frequent ones. I took one round of antibiotics, which is what caused the consequential UTIs I think.

I have been doing the at home tests for a while, and have never tested positive for nitrates. One and off, I test positive for leukocytes. I don’t believe I currently have a raging infection, but probably a slight one. I’ve tested positive for leukocytes consistently over the last few days.

I just started phase 1 yesterday and so far it seems to be going well. My question is does it seem odd that I never test positive for nitrates? Have you come across that before?

    Thank you once again!

    God bless,
    Brittany

I saw in a previous post that Bentonite clay can be used in place of activated charcoal. I have some Bentonite clay and would like to use it for my Phase II. What would the dose be in place of the charcoal capsules?

    Hi Bekah,
First thanks so much for this. I’ve been on anti-biotics on and off for yrs and so badly want off, I like natural! A few questions:
First, I have Ulcerative Colitis. I treat it naturally and as long as I stick to my diet I’m pretty good. If I travel and it flares I’ve found a good system for leaky gut puts me back on track. Do you think any of this may impact the Colitis? Specifically the Charcoal/gut treatments?
Second, I started having a severe cycle of reoccurring UTI’s with a guy a few years ago, was even put on post-coital anti-biotics. I changed partners and they cleared up and I barely got one for 2 years. That relationship ended. Now with my current partner it’s quickly returned! Any ideas why that may happen? I dont see any differences in type/rate of activity or cleanliness. Really sad about this because we’re getting quite serious and likely marrying (yay!). Also, discussing children in the near future has me super stressed since I know there are UTI complications with that. 🙁
    Thank you!!!! <3

Hi. I have been suffering from UTI’s ongoing for over 10 years after a diagnosis of an auto immune disease and the commencement of immune suppressant drugs which are life saving. I would say I have taken antibiotics around 6 to 8 times a year since but the infections continue. The antibiotics have never really cleared the infection though at times I get relief from the antibiotics by using natural methods… D Mannose Vit C etc. but even then there is always a trace of leucocytes in my urine. When the symptoms get really bad I resort to the antibiotics. Compounding this is the fact that I have a cystocele causing urine retention which does not help the situation. I am not a candidate for operation because of my autoimmune condition. For the past 3 months I have been fighting a bad infection. I have been on 3 courses of antibiotics and as soon as one antibiotic has finished the infection rears its ugly head. In August the culture came back as E. coli and a repeat culture done beginning of November has come back as Proteus Mirabilis. I have started self catheterizations 4 times daily to really get that bladder emptied. I am now trying your protocol and praying that it will work for me. Since starting the protocol I have had times when my urine has been chrystal clear but then it gets cloudy again but it is still early days. Because of the unusual bacteria is there something else I should be doing. I have read that this bacteria likes an alkaline environment and that I should acidify my urine ?

I’m sorry: this went to “Pending” for some reason, instead of posting.
OLE, oregano oil, and garlic or horseradish work for Proteus! One of the ladies in the group just killed her Proteus in the last week that way.

Hi! I think I’ve finally cured a raging yeast infection with Monistat (tried the 3day, didn’t work, finished with the 7 day, and it was a lot better.) I think I may now have a UTI, and I want to make sure the yeast infection doesn’t return. I drank baking soda water yesterday which helped with UTI pain, started the OLE and cold coconut oil insert yesterday, began drinking lemon water today along with plain yogurt with the cayenne pepper mixed into honey in it. That actually tasted surprisingly good! My ammonia levels weren’t that high at my last blood test, so I’m hoping the candida in the gut is getting better. Should I still do the activated charcoal or skip it? Also, should I insert the vitamin C capsule, then the coconut oil inserts for two days, and then the probiotic insert the next? I’m getting hot and sweating from exercising a lot, and I want to make SURE I don’t get another a yeast infection. I have a brand new bottle of the coconut oil, so I can make as many inserts with that as possible. Thoughts? Also, thanks so much for helping so many people. I’m SO glad I found your site!

      DEFINITELY do the charcoal!!
It’s the only thing that will get rid of the Candida deep down in your gut.

I would do the coconut oil, because since your problem is yeast, that means your pH is already low, where it needs to be for Lactobacillus. You’ll clear up totally using coconut oil and taking charcoal: insert a probiotic after about 5 nights in a row using coconut oil.

Yup, I took the mag citrate last evening. It took forever to kick in for me too, I didn’t full “empty” until about 4am this morning. Then the laxative fully kicked in, that was kind of rough, lol.

I don’t know if it was the laxative or the olive leaf, but I was definitely feeling nauseous all through last night. I chugged some activated charcoal this morning and am not feeling nauseous anymore, just completely worn out. My UTI symptoms seem to be improving which is great!

The test I took this morning looked much better. I did go to the doctor today to have them do a test as well because I have a history of UTIs and have had a horrible kidney infection before. I want to be on the safe side. They said my leukocytes were a little elevated, but that’s it. They’re sending it in for a culture. He still wanted to put me on antibiotics, but I’m waiting to hear back about the culture results first. I don’t want to take them unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Lastly, I think it’s worth mentioning that the doctor said that the home tests can give false positives due to bacteria on the skin of our lady parts. Not get TMI, but he said to either use wipes first or pull back the lips down there so the pee doesn’t touch anything. There’s no good way to say that! Sorry 🙂 But I think it’s important to mention.

Anyhow, I’m still doing the garlic, taking two olive leaf pills and the cayenne 3 times a day. The only symptoms I have left is it’s a little sensitive down there and still of a bit of urgency to pee. Anything else I should be doing or am I on the right track? 🙂

    Thanks for your help Bekah!

Hmm..the leukocyte reagent pad reacts to esterase (an enzyme produced by white blood cells) in your urine, so even if some bacteria were washed into the pad by the flow, it doesn’t react to bacteria cells and that wouldn’t affect the test.
      http://medicaldictionary.net/urine-leukocyte-esterase.html

So you can be assured that the test results you’re getting are pretty accurate.
In my experience, people in the medical field react to “I’m treating it naturally, and it’s working” with “You probably never had an infection.”

Keep doing what you’re doing, and don’t let up until the tests are clear for 3 straight days, then you can gradually taper down.
You’re going a great job: keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for the reply Bekah! I ordered everything and am on the plan. Except that I’m having no die off effects. I just left a comment on the post about that.

I tested again in the morning and now the nitrates are darker than the leukocytes, which have gone from purple to a faint pink.

Should I try the d mannose again since it looks like I do have an e coli infection?

I’m still having uti symptoms although they feel a little better, but not much.

Yes, do what it takes to keep your bowels moving, so the Candida toxins can’t build up.

Remember, keep building up with OLE/garlic at full steam until you’ve had a crystal clear morning test for 3 days, then slowly taper down.

Hello, I just took a home test and tested positive for leukocytes (purple), but not for nitrates. I’ve been taking d mannose for the last four days and don’t feel any better. In fact, I feel completely bloated and I just read that d mannose can have that effect.

Oh, and I took the test at about two this afternoon. Do you have to take it in the morning?

I have no idea about the candida, but I definitely feel like I have a pretty bad uti. Should I do what you recommend in phase 1? Thank you!

Yes, start Phase I right now!

D-mannose only works on E. coli, and then only if you don’t have too much intestinal Candida.
I would stop immediately, and make some cinnamon tea!
Definitely test first thing in the morning to get an accurate read. It may turn purple AND pink in the morning: nitrites tend to not show up in the middle of the day unless that infection is raging completely out of control.

I took a second OLE 2 hours ago but the cramps are gone now and no more diahrrea. I hope it doesn’t come back. Yes, I have activated charcoal and I will try taking some if the cramp comes back. I had a severe bout of bowel cramp once when I contracted disentary 20 years ago on a business trip to a foreign country. A few other times I experienced similar cramps during bouts of diahrrea so this is not new to me. Thank you for your prompt reply.

I am currently on antibiotic for my UTI but I started the OLE regime not to cure UTI but to get rid of the candida. I have a high sugar high carbohydrate diet so I expected the die-off effect. What I didn’t expect was the quick reaction. After less than an hour of taking one Swanson OLE pill, I have been having diahrrea. There is no headache but severe bowel cramp whenever I have a bowel movement, even though there’s hardly anything passing through the last two times, the cramp is unbearable. So much so that I am not sure if I should take another OLE. I have had similar bowel cramps occasionally in the fast. Is my experience normal? Thank you very much for sharing your time.

Hello. I’m so glad I found your site ! I’m a T-10 paraplegic and I believe I have a really bad UTI right now and possibly Candida. I’m feeling the urge to have to urinate almost on an hourly basis, I leak all over my self all the time (especially at night) and my urine is sometimes cloudy and smells strange. Can I send you a list of my medications/what I’m taking on a daily basis and you give me a structured plan on what to take ? I’m willing to try anything at this point. Also, I’ve noticed that since having the strange smelling urine and everything else, my legs have been incredibly stiff. From my knee to my hip….bending is very hard. Could that be Candida ? Thank you so much in advance ! -Colin

      No problem!
You’re doing some low-level yeast killing, there. I would increase the doses by one more capsule with breakfast and lunch, then take 2 with dinner and maybe one before bed, if you’re feeling okay. You’ll feel THAT in the morning… When you wake up, take 2500 mg of charcoal on an empty stomach..even if you wake up in the middle of the night. That will stop any die-off you’re feeling, like headache, nausea, or brain fog. Keep increasing your OLE by 2-3 capsules a day like that, starting off the day with a big dose of charcoal, then taking 1200 mg of charcoal in between OLE doses when you’re thoroughly loose and frequent.
How long it takes to get rid of the Candida depends on how much you have, but you want to work your way up to 4×4 doses, alternated with charcoal, and stay there for about a week. You can take more OLE if you think you need it, and you can do it longer if you think you need it.
Trust me, you’ll be able to tell that there are some major changes happening. I stopped having chronic headaches, stopped having PMS, gained energy and an aversion to sweets, lost about 7lbs in 10 days (went back to the low end of my ideal weight: I thought I’d never see that again after 5 kids), and my mental focus is back to like it was in my 20’s. I thought it was the kids and being in my 30’s that made me feel *blah*, but it was Candida all along!
Killing it is probably the single best thing you can do for your overall quality of life.

Hey, been reading lots of comments to see if anyone had my same issue but nothing so… Last week , sunday to friday, I did a gentle detox where I eat nothing containing sugar. I got a uti on Saturday and by Wednesday, I had noticeable symptoms. I took a dose of cayenne and started eating garlic and drinking cinnamon tea. On Saturday I got d mannose and ole swanson super strength and after the first dose I started experiencing mild herxhiemers. Sunday I increased the dose steadil, stopped the d mannose, and today, Monday, my uti symptoms are just at the tail end. I never got diarrhea and today I followed this exact phase II at full strength with only mild headache and nausea. Is is safe to assume that I am not going to get diarrhea and start the charcoal or where should I go from here? I know I still need a couple days at full strength to be rid of the uti but I really would like to be able to start the charcoal knowing that I’m not taking shortcuts.
    Thanks!

Have your stools loosened at all? Typically, the diarrhea phase kicks in just when the headaches are stopping: there’s frequently a 1-3 day lag period from headaches to unmistakable bowel symptoms, depending on how much needs to be moved out to the way in there.

Another option is that you didn’t have much Candida in your small intestine and you’ve already killed that part off. OLE and other Candida-fighters are absorbed into the bloodstream before they get to the large intestine, so you can stop having die-off symptoms from them before you’ve rid yourself of Candida. This is also why you need to take charcoal to fully remove it: since charcoal is never absorbed by your body it travels all the way through your gut, killing Candida the entire way.

If your bowels are normal to slightly loose, I would take around 1250 mg of charcoal first thing in the morning, and wait 2 hours to eat or drink anything but water. Alternatively, you could set an alarm to wake you 2 hours early, take it and go back to sleep, then go about your day normally when you awaken.

If your bowels are loose and frequent, take 2500 mg of charcoal first thing in the morning.

I was somewhat constipated Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday I started pooping somewhat normal sludgey. I would say my bowels are moving pretty well, after every meal. The only time I’ve had a headache was yesterday morning and I think that it was because I drank 1 strong black coffee every day over the weekend. I typically keep my coffee consumption sporadic because if I drink a couple of days in a row like I did this weekend, I will get a headache when I go without. I know you said no coffee but I have a 1 year old who just started running and to lie around resting is just not an option for me. So my headache lasted Monday morning for a couple of hours and didn’t come back at all even though I was doing full strength phase II.

Frequent and sludgy is good! You can definitely take the big morning dose of charcoal when your bowels are moving as frequently as you describe. Take 2500 mg and 16 oz water, chase it with an 8 oz glass an hour later, and an hour after that, resume normal eating/drinking activities and take your natural meds.
          Good job!
(And I totally get it: I have 5 and they’re all less than 2 yrs apart! I started drinking coffee out of self-defense. 🙂

It depends on how empty you are!
          General guidelines:
Only take 1 tablespoon if you’ve cleaned out with a laxative. If you’re just moving well and regularly, take only 1 teaspoon, and be sure to take a lemon juice shot (1.5) with meals, to keep the gut moving freely. And drink plenty of water between meals.

Thanks Rebekah, I’m gonna count yesterday as a practice. I got a late start and was only able to get 2 charcoal in. Is the charcoal suppose to dissolve I the water? I drank a lot of grounds. My real question is about the time frame. Iunderstand you need to wait 2 hours after eating so the carcoal doesnt suck up the food and supplements but is that 2 hours after you’re done eating? Can it be stretched fitter apart if you need to have meals more than 4 hours apart? Or is important to rep everything that close together? I want to givetidthe best chance I can. I know this uti lurking in me wants to rest it’s ugly head again as the bladder pressure keeps coming back in the past 2 nights.

It doesn’t dissolve at all; you stir vigorously and down it while it’s still suspended in the water.

And yes, it can be farther from eating, but not closer.

It’s common to have high urine volume and frequency a day or two after a charcoal cleanse: that’s your system shedding retained water.

For best results, drink 12 oz of celery/ginger/lemon juice twice during the day, and at bedtime. It will kill fungus, bacteria, and flush out the kidneys. It’s of great assistance to both gut cleansing, and UTI-killing.

So I should take the 2500 mg all at once? I feel my bowels are most empty after breakfast, so wait 2 hours then got for the 2500 mg? I have thyroid cancer that I am fighting naturally for over a year so I’m not sure I have much candida in my body because I’m on a mostly raw vegan diet but at the same time for some reason this UTI popped up so I’m just kinda confused with what might be going on inside my body. This is honestly the first time I have felt sick since April 2015 when I was diagnosed with cancer.

Well, *after* breakfast, they won’t be empty, anymore.
I would set an alarm to wake 2 hours before your usual rising time, get up and take the charcoal with 16 oz water, and go back to bed. Drink another 16 oz when you wake up.
By the time that dose of charcoal gets to the end of your system, you’ll have woken up and…taken out the trash, so to speak.

Hello, thanks for all this amazing info. I am trying to figure out for how many days you take the activated charcoal?

That’s a difficult question, because it depends on how much Candida you have, and there’s no way to tell that except by how your body responds to its death.
If you can take 2500 mg once a day when your bowels are in high gear from die-off, that will speed the Candida-killing process exponentially. I would do that for 7 days, and see where you stand.
Listen to your body and trust your instincts: after a week of this you’ll be in tune with what’s going on.

Just be careful to take that dose when your bowels are as empty as possible, so that its full strength is being used on Candida.

And had you been taking anything for it before you went to take the tests?
If an infection isn’t in full-on rage mode, you can have negative tests all day long: it’ll only show up in the morning. And when you’ve been drinking lots of water in a panic and peeing constantly, you’re not going to have enough of anything in your urine to register, but it’s still clinging to the bladder walls. Is your urine cloudy in the morning? Any odor?
I would get some UTI tests right away, and test first thing in the morning.

    Hi!!
I am taking D-mannose, oregano oil and vitamin C to help with my UTI situation that I have been having since February. 3 rounds of antibiotics and nothing. All these things really helped on my symptoms, but I want to get rid of the UTI!!
So, my OLE is finally here, I am starting the full protocol tomorrow, so, should I keep taking all those supplements?
Thank you I really hope it helps! I dont like doctors!!!

Stop taking the Vitamin C! It’s acidifying, and UTI bacteria thrive in acid conditions. You can drop the D-mannose and oregano too, because D-mannose isn’t as effective anyway until the Candida is cleared out, and oregano..well, I tried it on both a gram negative infection and a gram positive infection, and I couldn’t tell that it did anything, really. I haven’t had anyone get cured on oregano oil, but I’ve had well over a hundred get cured on OLE/garlic/cayenne, after clearing the gut with OLE and charcoal.

Everything is going to be more effective when your gut is cleared out, so just concentrate on that right now. Build up with the OLE, and brace yourself for some Candida die-off.

          You poor dear!
I had a lady with both, and after she killed her UTI she followed a protocol of drinking lemon water and olive oil, as I recall.
I checked back on her recently and she said she passed them all!
I’ll go look up those e-mails and see exactly what she did. BRB

Found it! She followed this protocol…

Above all else, stay well hydrated so they don’t scrape against the ureter walls. O_O

It’s Lena again. Yes I tested him a few days ago and it still shows pretty sagnificant infection even though he has less pain much less but still there, usually at the end of his urination. He drinks so much water that it kills his appetite . It’s funny that you have mentioned to double up on OLE, which I started to do as of this past Sunday. I will stop cranberry. I also give him mega dose of vit C ( 12,-14,000 mg)
    What are your recommendation?
Does he have candida? More pepper? I want to be careful not to overload his system. Thanks Bekah for your help

Vitamin C can acidify the urine, too!
I know, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there, and that’s what makes this so difficult. I had to find out what really works by trial and error after loads of research.
Can you shoot me an e-mail? I’ll give you my phone number, and we can chat. I have a couple of different theories as to why this is so persistent, and the quickest way to figure it out would be to talk.
You said he’s on Vitacost, so according to what I know right now either:
He has Candida with a biofilm, or
He has a Serratia infection, or
His infection is so deeply rooted into the urinary tract that he needs adult-size doses. Don’t worry about that, because OLE is completely safe and non-toxic even in the largest quantities.

Activated charcoal is key when it comes to thoroughly cleansing a Candida overgrowth from your digestive tract, but it’s not crucial in order to kill a current UTI.
Try looking for bentonite clay: it works the same way as charcoal and can be substituted for it. The big benefit from either of those is that they drastically reduce the chances of future UTI’s by removing Candida all the way to the end of your digestive tract, unlike any chemical-based yeast treatment. In doing so, you decrease your chances of future UTI’s by about 95%.

I followed all your advise and it worked just like you said! I had no idea that I had yeast, but so glad I got rid of that terrible stuff! I have been struggling with antibiotic resistant uti for WAY TO LONG! And after taking your advise it’s finally over! I started the treatment one week ago today! Feeling blessed! Thank you for your kindness, you have helped me so much, responded to all my emails, immediately, and checked up on me and my baby girl every day even though I’m a total stranger to you! God bless you!

Did I mention that I dance to “Hit the Road, Jack” whenever I get an “I’m cured!” message?
“Did someone get cured again, Mommy?”
      “Sure did, sweetie. High-five!”

I’m SO proud of you! You crushed it.

If you can let me know, and make sure to mention any other things going on, like medication you’re on or that you’ve taken recently, I’ll put together a protocol tailored to your situation.
