A Quick and Dirty Cleanse

Posted in Cleansing, Infection Killing Protocol, Morale, and Useful Tips

For those of you who really need to do a cleanse but feel overwhelmed by the whole process, here’s something you should be able to manage more easily.

If you don’t suffer from chronic constipation, you can simply wake up 2 hours early and drink a teaspoon of charcoal stirred into 12 oz of water, go back to bed till your usual rising time, and then go about your day, making sure you don’t eat anything, or drink anything but water within 2 hours of having taken the charcoal. Make sure to drink 8 oz water per waking hour the rest of the day. If you do suffer from constipation, you need to read this.

(If you’re on strictly scheduled prescription meds, consider setting an alarm to wake you in the middle of the night to take charcoal, when it won’t come anywhere close to them.)

Take probiotics alongside your food/natural meds, take a morning dose of charcoal every day for a week, and you’ll have cleared massive amounts of Candida from your upper gut by that time. If at all possible, take something (like mag citrate or saline) to completely clear your gut on the first day you have off work, and take a large dose of charcoal, like a tablespoon stirred into a glass of water. Keep well hydrated (8 oz water per waking hour), and it’ll sweep through your empty gut and rid you of the last of the Candida in your colon.

If your response to natural meds is constipation, you have low stomach acid and a bad Candida problem that NEEDS a can of whoop-*ss opened on it with a full cleanse, ASAP. Nothing you’re taking is going to make it into your bloodstream enough to affect any infection. Take a shot (1.5 oz) of pure lemon juice every time you eat. You can use concentrate out of a bottle, or juice a whole lemon, chopped and de-seeded.

Some people have great results with a salt water flush, but if you drink sole on a regular basis, you may be immune to its effects. I heat about 20 oz water to the steaming point, stir 1.5 tsp of (finely ground) sea salt or pink salt into it, and down the hatch while it’s still quite warm.
Do this first thing in the morning when you don’t have to go anywhere till lunch time: you should have to go to the bathroom in about an hour, and you should go a few more times in the 90 minutes after the first time.

As soon as you’ve gone 3x, you can take a big dose of charcoal, like 1 tablespoon stirred into a large glass of water. Drink 8 oz of water every hour after that for the rest of the day, and resume normal eating, meds-taking, and probiotics 2 hours after that dose of charcoal.

If saline solution doesn’t work for you, go for the mag citrate, or whatever else works. Once you’ve cleared your gut out one time, it’s MUCH easier the next time. I was apprehensive the first time I did this, and it turned out to be so easy, and so incredibly efficacious, that I was kicking myself for not having done it sooner.
A charcoal cleanse will clear more Candida out of you in one day than anything else can in weeks.

As I explained elsewhere, charcoal is never absorbed by your body, so it keeps working all the way through your gut, unlike everything else. And because it sucks Candida up whole, you don’t have to deal with die-off symptoms.

(Unless you have Candida so deeply embedded in your intestinal wall that charcoal just removes the top layer, which sends what’s left into shock. If you experience die-off after a dose of charcoal, that’s what’s happening. However, this is very rare, and it IS fixable.)

I know some of you out there have read this blog and tried some things, and all the natural meds did was make you miserable without fixing anything. That means you have a nasty case of Candida, and I’m sorry, but until you deal with that this crap will continue to haunt you.

If that’s you, and you haven’t nerved yourself to do even a little bit of cleansing, I’m here to tell you to come out of that fetal position and
GO. TO. WAR.
You’ve been invaded by hostile forces and they’re holding you hostage both physically and emotionally.
Candida saps your will to fight for your health, and the only way to get it back is to fight for it.
I know this from my own painful experience.

Stand up and fight for your life. You’re the only one who can.

hi rebecca! thanks to your protocol i had been uti free for two years! about 8 months ago i started celery juicing every day to help with my overall health. about 2 weeks ago i got a uti. my previous bacteria were e coli and klebsiella so i started treating it like that, wasnt working, so i went on macrobid, just finished my 7 day stint. got back the urine results, its staph sap. on my pee sticks, its mostly gone, but after awhile the teeniest tinyiest purple dots show up, so i know its still there a little bit and i want to crush it. my question is, should i start with a quick and dirty cleanse (I havent done one in 2 years…) or should i start taking ascorbic acid with charcoal doses in between? i feel like my stomach acid is ok since ive been taking celery juice for so long, but i didnt drink it when i took antibiotics because i was worried the macrobid might upset my stomach and i didnt want to be pooping constantly. also ive been taking 4 ole 3-4 times a day, and have been taking maintenance ole for the last 2 years so i dont think i have a huge candida problem either. let me know your thoughts for best next steps to kill this thing!! thank you 🙂

Hi Rebekah, We’ve communicated a few times already about a week ago. I have been tested and have an e-coli uti. I have had this for very many years but haven’t taken any antibiotics for it. I’ve been doing the celery juicing in the hippocrates section for a week plus lemon water and still no loose stools. I’m keeping the meds up but minimally as to keep die off symptoms down. I am taking approx 1 1/2 tsp. horseradish with meals now more often than before, shots of fresh lemon juice for over a week now with meals, vitacost ole approx one per dose at 3 or 4x per day. I was experiencing die off up until about 36 hrs ago. I would like to take more ole but hate the die off waves that come and go. I just took a tsp of charcoal with water and am waiting the 2 hours out for food and natural meds. I got tired of waiting for the loose stools to begin. I am also prone to constipation at times so I started taking my trifala daily over the past week to stay regular. Have you heard of trifala for help with constipation? Should I continue the juicing as well? If so, should I avoid the celery juice concoction within the 2 hour range of the charcoal? Lastly should I do the saline solution at some point and if so, when would be best for this? Oh and I do have the test strips you recommend and my urine is alkaline. My bladder is feeling better but definitely still feeling the infection intermittently. Thanks again for your help and guidance.

I have the constipation problem as well with charcoal. But I have found the more meds I take the more frequent I go. Oregano oil helps get me going without the die off as bad. Then I am able to charcoal before bed and then warm salt water first thing in the morning to ensure the charcoal doesn’t clog me and that finally got me going well enough to get back to the OLE. Oregano oil has been my best friend with e.coli but this is just my experience. I know we are all different.

Also lemon wasn’t my friend. Rebekah gives great options and we are all different but simplifying it down to oregano oil and charcoal got me the best results. Celery juice helps my gut. I also started using biocidin in place of daily charcoal because it contains humic and fulvic acid that break down biofilms. It’s also one tab each time. I still alternate with charcoal too but I travel a bit and the pill worked for me. I would highly encourage you to go see a functional medicine doctor to test you correctly and guide your healing process. Rebekah got me to a great start but until I had those results I really was just guessing.

Okay, I’d either temporarily double that, or make a saline laxative (I believe I put the instructions for that in the Quick and Dirty Cleanse post).

It sounds like you’re getting enough hydration, so you probably just need a bit more acid.

As Jessica commented, a daily dose of saline can help, and sometimes increasing your med doses will get things going (larger doses of OLE will often trigger diarrhea as Candida is killed off), but that comes with the risk of strong die-off symptoms first. 😬
Increased HR or OO doses can also get things moving due to bacterial die-off, which doesn’t cause the kind of headaches, nausea, and general misery as Candida die-off. You just get loose and….um, funky. 😷

0k I’ll try that. I was taking oregano oil a few months ago, before I found your blog and it helped my bladder greatly but it was only temporary. When I tried it again I started feeling the symptoms of die off. The brand I have is by Nova Nutritions. The label says for 1 capsule it’s 250mg. wild oregano extract 10:1. Does this looks like one you would recommend? Also should I do it the way Jessica suggested with the charcoal at night and saline solution in the a.m.?

The only issue with charcoal at bedtime is your bladder going untreated all night; taking charcoal if you wake up to pee is preferable in most cases so the bladder has meds in it most of the night. I’d probably try increasing your lemon first, if you don’t have any stomach discomfort.

Can you get Vitacost brand oregano oil? Most people have good results with that one; you can get the capsules or the bottle of oil with the dropper, and put the oil into empty capsules right before taking. I’ve found that brand to be quite potent without being caustically strong. In the meantime I’d try increasing your dose of the Nova brand temporarily by 50%, and see if that helps jumpstart things.

I drank 20 oz of the salt water mix this morning and happy to say it got me going :} I was not only relieved physically but mentally. Also did the tbsp charcoal in water after I went 3 times. Saw charcoal in the toilet each time. Been taking the horseradish and oregano oil with meals and also the ole intermittently in between meals. I also had a few glasses of the celery juice mixture after the charcoal passed the 2 hour mark. A little feeling of die off today but all in all it was much better than usual. I will not be able to take the charcoal at night as Jessica does as I need my melatonin and various supplements before bed so I’ll take the charcoal a few hours before I get up for the day as recommended. Hopefully tomorrow I won’t have a problem with constipation and if I do then I will wait until the following day in the a.m. to do another salty water drink. Also thanks to Jessica for suggesting the salt solution as well. I realize we are all very different and need to tweak things a bit to see what works for us. I’ll keep you posted Rebekah. Thanks so much for all the help.

Mary it sounds like you are finding what works for you!! So proud of you becoming a self healer! Rebekah is doing such a great job of guiding us to be our own self healers! Another thing that has really helped me now that I can take charcoal regularly is to sweat! The herbs kill, the charcoal binds but the sweat helps you really get those toxins out! Start slowly but try to walk everyday and work up a sweat. Saunas too. I do tend to feel the herx but movement also helps breakdown those toxic pathways. If you are unable to sweat then you have blocked pathways. I learned all of this from dr. Jess a functional MD I follow on social media. When I added the sweat my whole body healing changed. It happened much more quickly than JUST ridding toxins through going to the bathroom. I hope this helps. Remember to take it slow. I started taking walks with extra layers. Candida is very stealth and honestly an asshole. You really do have to take up all arms against it! Good luck with your healing Mary. I’m still there, I have had breakthroughs but still struggling with Candida especially around my period so candida is still undercover somewhere. Healing isn’t linear, unfortunately.

I did the charcoal at night and saline in the morning because it fit my schedule the best and Candida was more my issue so I wanted to give it that time to soak up as much Candida as possible! I also drink 3 liters of water a day so I wasn’t as worried about the nighttime and the charcoal not moving. Again this is Individual to me, I’ve Spent a lot of time chatting with Rebekah and finding solutions! I like natural factors oo. I take quite a large dose 4 times a day when I have a uti or Candida issues.

Yes, charcoal at night is ideal when you’re just working on your gut: it sweeps up all the dead Candida and toxins from the meds that day, and you wake up feeling great!
Bedtime is when I take it when I’m doing a gut health maintenance dose.

Hi I am curious if I can use Bentonite Clay instead of Charcoal as I don’t have much charcoal on hand but have a lot of clay. Will it work in the same way specifically to work as a cleanse for candida?

Bentonite clay (calcium bentonite only!) is activated charcoal’s freckle-faced kid sister with pigtails and braces.

That is, it’s better than nothing but charcoal does a far superior job.

I’m leery about ingesting essential oils; for one thing you need to use very small amounts, and the thing about Candida is that it will infest your entire 30ft of gut.

Anything that kills Candida chemically only goes so far before being absorbed into your bloodstream, meaning the Candida beyond that point is left untouched.

OLE (the good brands) and caprylic acid are a couple of the best natural yeast killers because they can be safely taken in large volume, meaning they go further and kill more before being absorbed.

Activated charcoal is unparalleled because it’s never absorbed, meaning it goes further and kills more than anything else ever will, killing and removing until it’s too full to hold anymore. Each successive dose goes further before becoming full.

Something like oregano essential oil is most effective used topically in a carrier oil, like coconut, to kill bacteria and fungus on the skin. You have to be careful about the proportions (or it’ll burn), and don’t use it on sensitive areas.

For that, you want to steep OLE in coconut oil. That also kills bacterial and fungal pathogens topically and is gentle enough to use on delicate tissue, and babies.

Thank you for the clarification! This is so helpful! I am battling candida (parapsilosis)overgrowth & parasites in the gut – and as a result, fungal skin infection,Tinea Versicolor on the skin which is pretty bad right now. (back, chest, abdomen, arms). I’m hoping that by killing the candida in my gut the skin issues will clear as well since that is really the root cause. I have been adhering to strict Paleo diet for the past couple years which has resolved digestive symptoms by not feeding the pathogens, but not effective at killing the infection. Would it be beneficial to treat both the gut (internally) and skin (topically) at the same time?

              Yes!
OLE is also effective against parasites: I saw it in action when I gave it to my cat shortly after adopting him. 🤭

You can take as much OLE as you need: it has no toxicity so all you have to worry about is not being overwhelmed with die-off symptoms.
I’ve taken 10 Vitacost capsules per dose multiple times a day to go deep into the gut, alternating with 2 tsp charcoal.

Ideally, get yourself loose and frequent and then alternate steadily increasing doses of OLE with doses of charcoal (1.5-3 tsp per dose, depending on how your gut is moving).

You can steep OLE, juiced ginger, and a bit of either crushed garlic or grated horseradish in coconut oil (3 hours in the oven with the light on) to make a potent anti-fungal/bacterial/biofilm-busting balm.
              Apply as often as desired.

So I found this blog after becoming convinced that I have chronic uti caused by Candida and going down the rabbit hole of the internet… thank god you exist. I got a uti almost two years ago, took antibiotics, uti cleared up but symptoms lingered— coming and going, I often felt like I was getting a full blown uti but never did, until this past month when I finally got such a nasty bladder infection I went on antibiotics again. Same thing happened— symptoms lingered after finishing the round of antibiotics, so I started phase 1 taking garlic and cinnamon tea. Those really seemed to do the trick— my symptoms cleared up within two days. I’ve been following the Candida diet (which didn’t help the uti, until I took cinnamon and garlic) and I started the activated charcoal and OLE two days ago. I don’t have any die off symptoms except for I do have extremely disturbed sleep at night, which has almost never happened before. I go to bed around eight, wake up at two thirty or so and don’t really fall back asleep the rest of the night (though I try). Oh also, after I finished the last antibiotic, I got a staph infection in my pelvic area (fun, fun) which is something that happened to me once about two years ago as well (a few months before the first UTI). So what gives? I must have some kind of Candida problem but I’m not sure just what it is I have and the best way to cure it. I am doing the quick and dirty cleanse today and so far so good. The salt water moved through me quickly, and I’m waiting for my next BM. But what route should I take after this? Continue with phase II even if my symptoms are alleviated? Also, what gives with the staph infection? I assume it’s related to the Candida/antibiotic round and that the garlic, cinnamon, charcoal and OLE will at least help address it…
thank you for all of this information!! I guess I am just a little overwhelmed.

Hi there, I followed your instructions all week. Charcoal first thing 2 hours before anything else then water every hour for 7 days. Today I drank the salted water. Went to the loo instantly, my regular motion, and then nothing. After 2.5 hours I drank the charcoal dying of thirst. Is there something I’m missing? I’ve been struggling with a uti / candida for a couple of weeks now. Did the cave treatments with the urgency disappearing but the burning still staying to various degrees. I found yoghurt tampon made a difference but can’t keep doing that to feel normal. Any suggestions?

I’m currently on antibiotics (again) after getting a UTI beginning of September, which I believe never went away. I’m on my 6th day of antibiotics and I still have some burning down there after I’ve peed.
Also, I called back yesterday to get my test results back and my urine was negative for infection.. so, not sure what to do. I refuse to go back to the doctor to get more antibiotics.. Would you recommend the charcoal cleanse? What should my first steps be?

I’ve read this blog so many times, but I’m not sure I am doing what I should be–I’m tired. Could you please help me figure out what to do? I have a leukocytes only or gram-positive infection (though I don’t know what strain). I think that means that I should be doing more acidic remedies (Vitamin C) vs more alkaline remedies (baking soda water). I did the Shock and Awe on Sunday. Monday I felt like I still had die off symptoms. Which I think means I should do more charcoal. Should I do the Q and D cleanse this week? I read that O.L.E. works better without food. Should I follow the instructions for the after charcoal part of Shock and Awe and then do another Shock and Awe on Saturday? Today I seemed to have more leukocytes on the urine test than my previous tests, so I’m frustrated, but I really want to succeed. Thanks in advance for any advise you can offer!

I’ve no idea! I was never told by the doctor which bacteria it was last time I was tested for a UTI – about 3 weeks ago. I had symptoms even after my last dosage of antibiotics but when I was tested again they found no bacteria. I heard about Dmannose and started taking that yesterday – 500mg every 2/3 hours, even during the night. My symptoms have been reduced with just that. I also tried your baking soda in water remedy and started peeing very very frequently right after – like every half hour with a lot of liquid until it just stopped.

If I’m starting phase one, can I eat fairly regularly? I have a very delicate diet and very delicate wallet – I’ve been reading up on this site but so many different things are recommended and vetoed and it seems to vary upon further research.

I have to order the OLE, so far what I can do is lemon water, baking soda water, garlic and cayenne pepper. Is that good enough until I can get all the supplements?

Yes, the different bacteria that cause UTIs react differently to these things.
Most UTI-causing bacteria feed on acid and stop feeding in alkaline urine, but others thrive in alkaline urine and are killed in acid.
You can tell which type you have by your urine test strip results, and how your symptoms respond to the various remedies.
You’re describing an E. coli infection, and everything in Phase I and II will work for you, as well as the alkaline diet post.
          You’re on the right track!

Okay thank you for your help! Right now I don’t have access to too much of the alkaline foods as I don’t do the food shopping in my house. Will not eating it completely negate all the rest of the treatment? I’m currently doing the garlic cloves and chili pepper with every meal but they haven’t been alkaline. I’m staying away from sweets(except cough drops), juices, fruits and tomato products. I’m also doing the lemon water all day. But other than that I’m continuing my regular diet. Btw, I’m lactose intolerant and a pescatarian. I can only have Greek yogurt of all dairy products.

Hello Rebekah! now, this may be tmi but after doing the garlic cloves, cayenne pepper, baking soda water, d mannose and lemon water, my most recent bowel movement has had these white fuzzy looking patches on them. Are those a sign that I’m killing off something?? Should I continue with the protocol until my OLE and charcoal arrive??

  15. […] Activated charcoal….there is an entire protocol that my good friend and herbalist Rebekah Whitter has created.  This is KEY to make sure that you are not harboring candida toxins that could be inhibiting your ability to fight infections.  This is also a very strong detox protocol to help you deal with the die off/herx you will experience as you kill off these pathogens!  Check out this site for more info: https://pantrypharmacy.com/2017/04/07/a-quick-and-dirty-cleanse […]

Hi Rebekah, I think I’m in day six of this. Up to nine blobs of horseradish (3x the first day’s dose). I stopped taking my evening dose of mag citrate capsules, worried that it would interfere with the candida-busting.I’m also taking one cap of Vitacost caprylic acid with each meal. Also one Instant Digest per meal.(does that have to be taken before food, or can it be with food?)I’d like to see more evidence of something happening before I start the big cleanse. Is there something else I can add? I’m teetering on the edge of constipation…I think that I’ve lost some fluid and I have a rash on one leg, but I don’t see much else. My vaginal/urethral burning went away yesterday, but it’s back today-maybe not as severe as before, but it’s not gone. And I’ve been using coconut bullets for over a week, with OLE for the past three nights. Any thoughts? TIA!

I woke up early and took the recommended dose of charcoal and went back to sleep. I did have a BM like normal but only one so I didn’t do the charcoal again but still took my natural meds both days with no die off. Today is day 3 and I now have loose stools. So I think it kinda works itself out. So don’t be discouraged. I am going to take another large dose of charcoal and just keep up with the meds. If I have loose stools I will do the charcoal. If I don’t then I will skip that next day so I don’t get clogged LOL

      Jess,

I am curious what meds you’re taking…And to confirm: you’re taking one tsp. of charcoal first thing daily, two hours before anything else?

Hi Ilsa, yes I made the glass of charcoal water the night before with a lid and something to stir it with. I set my alarm for two hours before I normally wake up. Alarm went off I stirred, guzzled and went right back to sleep. I rotate meds every 4 days. I take OLE, pau de arco, goldenseal. I still try to get in a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil everyday. Plain Coconut bullets at night. I don’t exhibit symptoms like most people. But I just finished 10 days of antibiotics so I know I need to try to cleanse. So if I have a BM then I take the charcoal the next morning, if I don’t because I’m not always that regular then I skip the charcoal but try to continue taking the pills.
I did the hardcore cleanse with the magnesium last fall and it didn’t go well. I was throwing up the magnesium.
        Hope this helps!

Ilsa, I am in the same boat as you. I am constipated and so I haven’t been able to take the charcoal. I think I was getting rid of stuff because I woke up one day with a lot of symptoms that I didn’t have before. And when I took my OLE that day I had some die off symptoms. Rebecca, where do we go from here?

There’s a couple of things that could be in play…

              1. You may simply need more water: charcoal uses a lot to work its magic. Or, if you’re drinking plenty of water (8 oz per waking hour), you may need..
              2. Cardio exercise. If you’ve got a job that involves a lot of sitting, you probably need to get your heart rate up for 20-30 minutes a day to speed peristalsis.

Meanwhile, it’s fine to take milk of magnesia once a day to give things a kick in the tail, so to speak. Get that charcoal flowing rapidly through you with plenty of water, and take a probiotic every day, and your gut roars to life.
People who’ve struggled with gut issues would be well served by using L-glutamine, DGL, and digestive enzymes for a while, too.
They regenerate the gut lining and promote proper digestion and adrenal function.

You’re done when you wake up every morning feeling rested and clear-headed, you have no more brain fog, carb cravings, mid-afternoon crashes, you don’t get irritable or shaky when you’re hungry, your PMS vanishes, your periods are virtually painless, your nails stop breaking, your scalp stops itching, your head stops aching, and your digestion is perfect.
You can message me on FB if you want to chat about where you are, and if you think you’ve plateaued short of the goal, for some reason.

Is it better to take the activated charcoal pill or the coconut charcoal powder? What’s most effective?

I’ve found both to be equally effective: I just recommend the powder because it’s a far, far better deal, and easier to make poultices with, too.

    Hi!
I’m not sure I understood the instruction well. We are suppost to take charcoal 2 hours before wakeing up and after we went to toilet (with or witout a little push with mag citrate, hot wather, saline)? Take probiotcs with our meals and that’s it? Or is there somthing else that I missed?
    Kind regards,
    Anita

If you do NOT have any problem with constipation, and you’re disciplined about drinking water, you can wake two hours early, take charcoal and water, and go back to bed.
Do everything the same as usual the rest of the day, making sure to drink enough water.
As soon as you can, do a full cleanse by cleaning your gut out with magnesium citrate, and taking a large dose or two of charcoal, as described.

    Hello Rebekah,
You are an angel for our entire family.
Your phrase “Nothing you’re taking is going to make it into your bloodstream enough to affect any infection” is eye opening one, I think its not only true for natural medicines but allopathy & other stuff as well. Once we cleanse our digestive system, all medicines efficacy may increase as well as the foods nutrients may better absorb in blood. And for sure, all natural infections killers can work promptly to attack on uti.

I know you’re suppose to see little white things in your urine that resemble little pieces of toilet paper while your expelling candida, but I’ve been seeing a lot of bubbles. Could that be Candida too? I’m wonder if I’m still in the process of losing Candida which is why I’m still not able to get rid of the uti.
